Lamin Sanneh’s Legacy
Lamin Sanneh was the D. Willis James Professor of World Christianity and of History at Yale Divinity School. A leading scholar of Islam and Christianity, he authored over 200 articles in academic journals and more than a dozen influential books. He served as editor of the Oxford Studies in World Christianity series.
Sanneh was appointed by Pope John Paul II to the Pontifical Commission of the Historical Sciences and later by Pope Benedict XVI to the Pontifical Commission on Religious Relations with Muslims. He was also an elected life member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
At the time of his passing, he was serving as President of the Center for Early African Christianity, succeeding the renowned theologian Thomas Oden.
